Our shipping team is dedicated to serving the needs of both the domestic and international shipping community. We draw on a depth of international experience. We advise a diverse list of shipping clients including shipowners, charterers, banks and other financial institutions both in Greece and throughout the world. In addition we maintain a network of trusted and experienced correspondents and foreign lawyers based in all major shipping centers ensuring that we can assist our clients worldwide.
We represent banks and other finance providers and diverse ship owners in relation to all forms of secured lending/borrowing. Our experience covers major international syndications, group restructures, workouts and refinancing for newbuildings and second hand tonnage for trading/scrap. We act for both buyers and sellers in relation to all aspects of ship sale and purchase, ship and yacht registration including bareboat registrations and acquisition of newbuildings worldwide.
We represent Banks in Greece in relation to a wide range of matters which include advice from day to day transactions, legal reviews of corporate accounts and compliance with financial regulations.
FATCA and CRS
We provide legal advice to clients on all aspects of the Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information (“AEOI”) due diligence and reporting regimes such as FATCA and the OECD Standard for Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information – Common Reporting Standard (“CRS”).
Corporate and Commercial Law
It is our aim to provide a full service to our clients. We draw on a depth of non-contentious experience and undertake a varied company and commercial workload including worldwide company formation and dissolution, international tax planning, complex trust and company structuring, company sale and purchase, joint ventures, shareholders’ agreements, agency agreements, privacy data protection issues and diverse contractual preparations including building contracts, charterparties, operating arrangements, crewing and manning agreements and aspects of ship management.
Marine and Civil Litigation
Strongly aware of the commercial and economic needs of our clients, we always seek an amicable settlement of disputes wherever possible. However, if matters cannot be resolved satisfactorily we can provide our clients with effective litigators to prepare and manage disputes, if necessary, in arbitration and court proceedings. We handle a broad range of claims and disputes concerning charterparties, bills of lading and other contracts of affreightment, shipbuilding and sale and purchase disputes, ship arrests and injunctions. Working closely with our ship finance team we can provide expertise in worldwide enforcement of mortgagees’ interests and enforcement of judgments.
